The California State Lands Commission (CSLC) is now accepting public comments on the environmental impact of a proposed project to replenish sand at Broad Beach. The commission completed an Analysis of Impacts to Public Trust Resources and Values (APTR) for the project and posted it online for public viewing and comments.

Proponents of the Broad Beach Restoration Project want to import sand from offsite locations in order to restore and protect about 114 beachfront homes from storms, flooding and beach erosion. If approved, the project would widen a beach that has long suffered from erosion, causing the beach to narrow.

Those who wish to submit comments have until the commission’s next meeting date on Dec. 5, but those who want the commission staff to consider their comments before preparing its staff report must do so by Friday, Nov. 16. Comments can be emailed to environmental specialist Jason Ramos at Jason.Ramos@slc.ca.gov or mailed to him at 100 Howe Ave., Ste. 100-South, Sacramento, CA, 95825.
