Santa Monica resident Janice McQueen Ward will join other lung cancer advocates on Sunday at a race in Playa del Rey to raise awareness and funds for research. The second annual Free to Breathe 5K run and 1.5 mile run kicks off at Dockweiler State Park at 8:30 a.m.
Ward lost her mother and uncle-actor and Malibu resident Steve McQueen-to lung cancer. But she turned her grief into passion to advocate for those touched by the disease. Ward has spoken to people across the country about making lung cancer, the number one cancer killer in this country, a national health priority.
