The United States Tennis Association recently announced that Marianne Robertson has been selected as a member of the U. S. Maria Esther Bueno Cup Team for women 50 years of age and over. Robertson will represent the United States at the 29th ITF Seniors World Team Championships on European red clay courts in Mallorca, Spain from April 27 to May 2.
Originally from Stockholm, Sweden, Robertson came to the U. S. on a tennis scholarship to play tennis for Pepperdine University, where she is now an adjunct professor of sports nutrition. She became a U.S. citizen eight years ago.
Robertson is one of a four-woman team selected by the USTA from the top American players in her age division. She has won four national doubles titles and was a doubles finalist in the 2008 Women’s 50’s World Championships held in Antalya, Turkey. The U.S. is the current defending Bueno Cup champion, having won the gold from 2006 to 2008.
