Olive Joyce “O.J.” Kelly, a Malibu resident of nearly 48 years, died at her home on May 8. She was 86.

Kelly was born in Montana and moved to Southern California at an early age. She graduated from Los Angeles High School, and had her own beauty salon named “Marquis House of Beauty” in Brentwood for many years.

Kelly was considered a sports woman, and participated for years as a member of the Bel-Air Bay Club with friends and family. She and husband Gregory were members of the Pepperdine Crest Club, where they frequently swam, went to sport events and played volleyball with other local residents.

The couple traveled to Europe on many occasions and were constant partners in life. Friends and family said she had an outgoing personality.

Kelly is survived by her husband, Gregory; brother, Mark Jelmeland; sons, Ed Marquis, Gary Marquis, Steve Marquis and daughter Susan Gacad (who was in the first graduating class of Malibu Park Junior High); grandchildren, Angela Gacad (who graduated from Malibu High last year), Tyler Marquis, Ken Marquis, Kris Marquis, Kelly Jenkins, Anthony, Stephanie and James Marquis and three great-grandchildren.

A service took place on May 14 at Pacific View Memorial Park & Mortuary in Corona del Mar, where she was buried near her mother, Mabel Jelmeland and sister, Maxine Hirsch.
