I am among many who oppose the war-all wars! Killing each other is not an answer to our serious problems that we continually face. Also, because I am a Christian, having learned at an early age that one of our important Commandments “Thou shall not kill” is being broken by acts of war. War is killing! My husband and I lived in Vietnam for two years with the sound of war all around us. Saigon was supposedly a safe city to live and work. My first job was being a volunteer at the USO, later working for the BNDD, which eventually became the DEA. As a volunteer at the USO, we helped the servicemen make telephone calls, helped them with writing and addressing letters and also their shopping. One day a young serviceman came to my desk. I could see only his head and shoulders. He had lost both of his legs. H also had refused to return to the United States. This marked the beginning of my strong feelings against war, any kind of war. I have truly prayed that no man or woman would ever have something like this happen to them. After 9/11, we saw American flags everywhere in our country with “God Bless America.” On a recent visit to Erie, Pennsylvania, we saw billboards all over the city saying “God Bless the World.” Please, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, let us work for a peaceful world. We need friendship, love and respect for every person in every country all over the world.
