I was saddened to see that a young sea lion was attacked by unleashed dogs and died. It doesn’t surprise me considering the number of dogs roaming up and down Busch Drive in Malibu Park. I saw three unleashed dogs with no owner just this week. Some people who live here think they are exempt from the same laws that we abide by, that is, keeping dogs on leashes at all times. It is rude and selfish for a Malibu dog owner to think it is cute to let his or her dog roam in the street or on the beach. These dogs scare horses, endanger drivers and frighten those of us who want to walk freely.
I have had a large black dog threaten me a number of times because the owner lets it run loose to use my yard as a toilet. You dog owners know who you are, so stop thinking that the world revolves around you and your dog. Put them on a leash or keep them in your yard where they belong.
By the way, it is against federal law to touch, harass or move a resting or beached sea lion. We can only hope that the dog’s owner is arrested.
