Stern Sworn In

State Senator and Malibu native Henry Stern was sworn into office on Monday, Dec. 5, replacing longtime senator Fran Pavley in the 27th State Senate District, which encompasses Malibu and surrounding areas — as Pavley has said, “Malibu to Magic Mountain.” Pavley was termed out of office and supported Stern in his bid for her former seat.

Stern, a Democrat who was formerly the senior policy advisor to Pavley, handily beat out Republican Steve Fazio on Nov. 8 to earn his place in Sacramento. The Harvard grad, who also holds a law degree from UC Berkeley, has been Malibu’s representative to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy since December 2014.

The California legislature is now in recess and will reconvene on Jan. 4, 2017.
