What officially inaugurates election season in Malibu? Why, it’s Steve Uhring’s biennial attack letter! And they worry that nothing stays the same.
Fortunately, not everyone in our community thrives on divisiveness and phony wedge issues. There are still those who strive, against enormous odds, to keep this community together, and to conduct themselves in a civil, dignified and honorable fashion that serves all the people of Malibu, and not just a select group of special interests.
For this reason I have given my support to John Sibert, Kathy Wisnicki and Pamela Conley Ulich, the three candidates I truly believe represent the very best Malibu has to offer.
Pamela Conley Ulich’s first term was marked by dogged independence and a passionate devotion to the greater good of this city. She has more than earned a second term. John Sibert may well be the most qualified citizen of this community never to have served on the city council. He is one of Malibu’s founding fathers, a man without whom we might never have won independence. Any city in America should be so fortunate as to have a man of his stature and vision on their city council. Last but not least, Kathy Wisnicki’s demonstrated courage and creativity as Malibu’s lone representative on the school board should leave no question as to her skills as a diplomat, administrator and politician.
All three have proven themselves in public service and faced the difficult task of balancing divergent interests. But most importantly, they are listeners who will give equal consideration to all voices of the community. I urge my fellow citizens to tune out the noise, ignore the negativity, the scare tactics and the vitriol. This is a time to celebrate Malibu’s future, for we have the rare chance to elect one of the most capable and experienced councils in our young city’s history.
