Boys Basketball: The Malibu High School varsity boys basketball team went 2-0 in league play last week. The boys played Villanova Prep Wednesday night in what was the team’s senior night. The Sharks honored seniors Evan Schoenbrun, Chase Hall, Montrail Yates and Saadiq Hasan for their services to the basketball program. The game was close until the closing seconds, when Jack Platner and Kyle Sandler helped the Sharks pull ahead of the Wildcats. Malibu won the game 46-38.

Later that week, the Sharks played Grace Brethren in what was their second to last league game of the year. The Sharks won the game 55-37 behind Sandler and Platner’s 11 and 10 points respectively. The Sharks now have a 4-5 record in league with only one game left before the season’s conclusion. This week, the boys will face off against Carpinteria, a team they beat earlier in the year 53-40.

Girls Basketball: The Malibu High School girls varsity basketball team went 1-1 in league play last week with a win against Grace Brethren and a loss against Carpinteria. The girls faced off against Carpinteria Feb. 1 and lost in a 37-67 contest. The girls then traveled to Grace Brethren Feb. 3, winning 45-43, making their league record 2-5 on the season. This week, the Sharks will face off against La Reina on Tuesday and Villanova Prep on Thursday. Both are home games and will be the last games that the Sharks’ seniors, including four-year starter Danielle Bush and three-year starters Hannah Robinson and Zoe Katz, will play in Malibu High uniforms.

Boys Soccer: The Malibu High School varsity boys soccer team went 1-1 in league play last week against two formidable opponents. On Jan. 31, the boys fell in a 1-4 contest against the first-place Oaks Christian Lions. The boys then came home to play Santa Paula and won in a contested 1-0 battle, making their league record 4-5-1 on the season. This week, the boys will travel to Carpinteria on Monday and will then return home to Fillmore on Wednesday in what will be the Sharks’ final home game of the season.

Girls Soccer: The Malibu High School girls soccer team is on the prowl for another CIF playoff berth with a 2-1 record in league play last week. The girls opened play last week with a 3-1 win against La Reina, then traveled to Santa Paula and lost in a 2-4 contest, and ended their league play last week with a win against Oak Park. The girls move to 5-3-1 on the season in league play and will look to end their regular season this week with a home game against Nordhoff on Monday and an away game at Saint Bonaventure. The game against Nordhoff will be Senior Day for the Sharks, who will bid farewell to senior standouts Claire Kiefer, Gigi Wooler and Ashtin Miller.

Girls Water Polo: The Malibu High School girls water polo team kept up an undefeated league record with a 2-0 record in play last week. The girls honored seniors Sophie Galate, Miranda Bard, Faith Brown, Jojo White, Erika Wooler and Jojo White with an impressive win in their last home game against Cate. The girls then traveled to Oaks Christian on Wednesday and beat their rivals with another good win. This week, the girls look to wrap up their undefeated league season and improve their seeding in CIF with games against Carpinteria and Rio Mesa.
