Malibu Seawolves swimmer Kennan Hotchkiss had a standout performance in the pool at the July 29-Aug. 2 Southern California Junior Olympics, which took place at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
The Malibu High School (MHS) freshman grabbed fourth place in the 1,500-meter freestyle. Hotchkiss finished with a time of 17 minutes, 31.11 seconds.
The younger brother of former MHS and Malibu Seawolves star swimmer Logan Hotchkiss swam away with eighth-place finishes in the 800 and 400 freestyles. Hotchkiss had a time of 9:23.09 in the 800 and 4:29.34 in the 400.
Kennan also placed 24th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:24.90. He finished 41st in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:13.50.
Seawolves Amy Perna and Marcel Hurtubise also competed at the Junior Olympics.
Perna placed 53rd in the 50 freestyle with a time of 31.67, and 60th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:09.84.
Hurtubise had a time of 1:01.80 in the 100 freestyle, which placed him 49th. He also came in 54th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:19.23.
The three swimmers competed in the 13- and 14-year-old age bracket. The Malibu Seawolves are a full-service swim club.
