Leading luxury brokerage, Douglas Elliman Real Estate, the nation’s fourth-largest real estate company nationwide opened its first Malibu office this week in the recently renovated Sands Center. The new Malibu location represents one of 21 locations in California, from Coronado to Carmel, since acquiring Teles Properties. Elliman now has more than 7,000 agents in 110 offices across the United States, including Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey, Long Island, the Hamptons & North Fork, Westchester, Greenwich, South Florida, Colorado and California. Moreover, Douglas Elliman has a strategic global alliance with London-based Knight Frank Residential for business in the worldwide luxury markets spanning 60 countries and six continents.
This newest Elliman office will be led by Peter Hernandez, a Malibu local and president of Douglas Elliman California Brokerage. Hernandez was formerly CEO and founder of Elliman’s recently acquired Teles Properties, a highly successful regional brokerage with 21 offices throughout Southern California.
“The affiliation with Elliman not only provides great cross marketing opportunities with a national firm, international partners and a chance to maximize our proprietary technologies and resources on behalf of Malibu buyers and sellers,” Hernandez said, “it also allows me to work in my home town, where I can contribute my local knowledge of and my affection for our very unique and beautiful community.” Hernandez has lived in the Malibu area for 30 years and currently resides on Pt. Dume.
Stephen Kotler, the CEO of the Western Region who will serve as CEO of the combined firm, noted that the newest Elliman location is a natural progression from the Beverly Hills office, adding, “As we have fostered such strong coast-to-coast relationships with our clients, it was only a matter of time before we opened in Malibu and we couldn’t be more excited.”
Hernandez reported that he is encouraged by the interest of the many Malibu real estate professionals and “friendly competitors” who have reached out to welcome the Elliman brand to Malibu.
“I am very proud of our culture of cooperation and collegiality both within our offices and with other agents and brokerages, especially those that share our ethics, expertise and commitment to the highest level of client service,” Hernandez said. “We look forward to working with them.”
Both Elliman and Teles have specialized in providing brokerage services in high net worth communities and have developed their services in response to the needs of a clientele that requires extensive experience and expertise in their real estate representation.
In order to assure this level of professionalism, Hernandez explained the Elliman management philosophy reflects the belief that the firm’s agents are their primary clients—that empowering them to provide the highest level of client service is essential to the firm’s success.
“We are committed, not only to recruiting and retaining top professionals, but to assuring them access to accurate and timely information, communication and social media tools in order for them to serve as ‘consultants” to their clients,” Hernandez continued, “To this end, the firm has developed sophisticated proprietary online resources as well as a corporate culture supporting cooperation, communication and, of course, ongoing professional education.
“We are ready and able to serve Malibu buyers and sellers and look forward to building our Malibu presence by providing world class service delivered in the most ethical and expert manner,” Hernandez said.
