Just the facts, ma'am

You can tell an election is coming. In your Feb. 26 issue, Ms. Hoffman is back to her old tricks-inventing "facts." She claims that I endorse and have promised to uphold "a coastal plan," referring to the Coastal Commission-written LCP. For the record, I have never taken any position on that plan, let alone endorse and uphold it. I was not on the City Council when the Legislature took away Malibu's authority to write its own LCP. As a private citizen I actively opposed the bill (AB 988)

that mandated the Coastal Commission to write that plan. I support local control for Malibu. Why else would I have dedicated three years of my life to obtaining cityhood for Malibu?

The 2000 Council brought this on by withdrawing a completed draft Local Coastal Plan LUP (March 2000) from Coastal staff review in June 2000, and I don't mean the partial 1999 draft that had been submitted for comment six months earlier. That was a political decision that has had dire effects on this community from the unnecessary costs of a lawsuit to a de facto moratorium on Coastal Development permits.

If you want to know my opinions and positions on issues, call me at 457-7086 or go to my Website www.bringbackwalt.com. Don't rely on inflammatory diatribes by people who have never even bothered to ask what my positions are.
