Letter: Stick to the Facts

Letter to the Editor

I am a local father, husband and full-time Malibu resident. My family and I love this town and certainly don’t want to see it get turned into Times Square. I don’t think there is anybody in this town that would want that. I’m glad that Measure R is giving us — the people — the opportunity to weigh in, but I am frankly disturbed by some of the rhetoric being leveled against the Whole Foods project and its developers.

If you hate Whole Foods in general, say so. If you think a Whole Foods will draw more outsiders into Malibu, then make your case, but let’s not make baseless accusations and gross misrepresentations of the facts — two things the hysterical naysayers have no qualms about doing. Fact one: this is not a shopping mall, so stop calling it that. Look at the designs and judge for yourself. Fact two: it is not ambiguous whether or not Whole Foods will move here. If we approve the project, Whole Foods will move in.

My family and I would welcome a Whole Foods and a beautiful park in our town and encourage all of our neighbors to judge the project on the merits of its design, not on baseless propaganda.
