Pepperdine women’s tennis star Luisa Stefani, along with men’s players Guilherme Hadlich and Gabriel Sidney, earned West Coast Conference weekly tennis accolades in an announcement made by the conference on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
This is the second time Stefani, a sophomore ranked sixth as a single for the ninth-ranked women’s team, has earned the honors; for doubles pair Hadlich and Sidney this is the first such recognition of the season.
Stefani earned the accolades following an excellent weekend of competition, upsetting second-ranked UCLA Bruin Ena Shibahara to propel the Waves past UCLA on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 26. Stefani has gone 12-6 overall this season, with a 10-2 record against nationally ranked opposition.
Teammates Hadlich and Sidney, competing with the Pepperdine men’s team across the country in Florida, advanced their winning stream to five matches in a row. The No. 2-ranked Pepperdine doubles pair took a point against Florida State on Friday, Feb. 24, going on to clinch a doubles point for the Waves in a match against South Florida.
Hadlich, a senior and Sidney, a sophomore, have been doubles partners for two seasons; this season, the duo has been undefeated at 5-0 from the No. 2 spot, collecting one win over nationally ranked opponents.
