Rock Climber Dies at Malibu Creek Wednesday

A rock climber fell to his death in Malibu Creek Wednesday evening while climbing above Century Lake Dam.

The climber, a male, has not yet been identified.

According to Malibu/Lost Hills Sherriff Station Watch Commander Sgt. Brooks, the man fell approximately 100 feet from a cliff, which resulted in life ending injuries.

At about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, an operation to recover the body, utilizing Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR), commenced to retrieve the body.

According to SAR Captain David Katz, the call came just before 8 p.m. and emergency responders from California State Parks, LA County Fire Department, Malibu SAR and Sheriffs from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station were on scene.

Katz said that since the climber was pronounced dead at the park, further information as to his identity comes through the LA County Office of Coroner.

At the time of publication, requests for information through the Coroner Office have not yet received a response.Â
