The Malibu AYSO Girls Under 10 Extra Team, the Bolts, earned third place in the recent League Cup Tournament in Moorpark.

The tournament was highlighted by a rousing 3-1 come-from-behind victory against Newbury Park Black, a team the Bolts had battled to draws on three prior occasions. The tournament itself played out much as the regular season did, with close, hard fought matches mixed in with agonizing defeat.

The Bolts’ first match of League Cup pitted the team against Camarillo, an undefeated powerhouse with a 12-0 record. During the regular season, the Camarillo team beat the Bolts 4-0 and 6-1. Still, it was a new day and the girls dug in hard against the Area 10E Extra champs, giving up an early goal but nothing else.

Late in the game, with the score still 1-0, the Bolts earned a penalty kick when the winger was fouled in the box. The Bolts then scored an expertly placed penalty shot, making the score 1-1 and ending the game in a tie.

The tie, however (the first of Camarillo’s season), was pivotal to the Bolts run to the finals. In the next match, the Malibu team beat Canyon Country 2-1, which set up a rematch with Camarillo in the semi-finals. The girls lost the rematch with Camarillo, but still earned third place overall in the League Cup.
