Go with the flow

I am a retired Fire Captain, and supervised the Malibu Fire Prevention office for the past 15 years. I am addressing some of Ms. Vandor’s unfounded concerns about water for the Trancas Country Market project. The increased domestic use is very small, about 4,600 gallons per day. The water main under PCH is capable of flowing more than 10,000 gallons per minute so it will not be significantly impacted. And, like every other customer of Water District 29, TCM will pay for its water usage. Water District 29 has provided a “Will Serve” letter evidencing there is an adequate water supply available.

Ms. Vandor also has stated the PCH improvement project by Water District 29 is necessary for the TCM expansion. This is absolutely false as confirmed by Water District 29. The water upgrade was designed, approved and scheduled totally independent of TCM project. The upgrade will take place regardless of the expansion. The upgrade is for the benefit of the Malibu West and Trancas homeowners. It will provide redundancy to the water system and replace pipes that were taken out of service years ago. According to the City, none of the PCH improvements will take place in an ESHA.

Ms. Vandor needs to get her facts straight. Accusing the developer, architect, government officials and consultants of negligence and incompetence through exaggerations and alarmism is irresponsible. Dan Bercu and the City worked hard to design a good and safe project. They deserve better.
