An area of Trancas Canyon Beach tested for high levels of bacteria on Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and swimmers should avoid the water.

The affected area is located 50 yards east of the Trancas Bridge, near Trancas Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway. Swimmers and beachgoers are advised to avoid the water 100 yards on both sides of the waterway.

An online listing of the sampling site results did not specify what type of bacteria was found in the water. Requests for comment to the Dept. of Public Health were not immediately returned. It’s also unknown how long the advisory will last.
