MSA holds ‘Surf Yer Brains Out’ surf competition

The Malibu Surfing Association hosted its second annual “Surf Yer Brains Out” youth surfing contest at First Point Malibu Oct. 16.

Winners for the boys 12-and-under division were Mickey Clarke in first, Griffin Foy in second, Kei Kobayashi in third and Sean Woods in fourth. Clarke, Koboyashi and Woods also placed in the boys 14-and-under division, finishing first, second and third, respectively. Matthew Awbrey claimed fourth place. Boys 18-and-under division winners in order of finish were Colton Sarlo, Riley Garrison, Tyler Morris and Skylar Lawson. In the boys 18-and-under longboard division, the top spots went to Trevor Robbins, Jesse Hinkle, Nathan Strom and Micah Crozier.

For the girls 18-and-under division, Sarah Kohrogi came in first, Tia Blanco placed second, Rachel Tominaga was third and Frankie Seeley placed fourth. The girls 18-and-under longboard winners were in order of finish Kirra Kehoe, Taylor Nelson, Seeley and Sam Osbourne.

Local Betsey Lee, 10, also competed in the 18-and-under longboard division, her first ever surf contest. Lee placed fourth in her group.
