Sheila Michail Morovati began collecting crayons to donate to inner city schools when she noticed how many got thrown away after being barely used at restaurants.

Malibu mom Sheila Michail Morovati has created a crayon recycling program, Crayon Collection. Morovati has been collecting gently used crayons that would otherwise have been thrown away and donating them to inner city schools. She collects crayons from kid-friendly restaurants, as well as her daughter’s preschool.

Morovati, a graduate of UCLA with a degree in sociology, has contacted restaurants and asked them to collect crayons that they find left on tables. Islands has participated on a national level, collecting more than a million crayons throughout the first year of the program.
