David Christian Ruth, 61, died from a long illness at his Point Dume home on June 11, surrounded by his wife of 36 years, Deborah, and his two sons, David and Tyler.
David was a graduate of Claremont McKenna College and began his career as a certified public accountant at Coopers & Lybrand in Los Angeles. David went on to obtain his law degree from Harvard University and practiced at De Castro, West, Chodorow, Mendler & Glickfeld, Inc. In 1999, he was a founding partner of Stowell, Zeilenga, Ruth, Vaughn & Treiger LLP.
“David’s primary focus and passion was his family,” a loved one said. “David was a man of strong faith and an active member of Malibu Presbyterian Church. He loved the outdoors.”
David spent time backpacking with his family and friends and fishing, often traveling to Idaho and Alaska to fish.
“He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed cycling up Pacific Coast Highway and through the Malibu canyons,” a loved one said. “David enjoyed collecting cars as a hobby and loved to spend a Saturday afternoon washing and waxing cars, always eager to talk to people walking to the Point.”
David is survived by his immediate family, Deborah, David and Tyler. He is also survived by his mother Clarice Ruth, his four sisters, three brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. His father, David Ruth IV, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held the June 26 at 12:30 p.m. at Church of the Hills, Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills.
