Letter: Disturbing Nature

I simply cannot believe SCE’s [Southern California Edison] plan to interfere with healthy, growing trees that were probably there long before the unsightly telephone poles and wires. Trees are the lungs of the earth. It has been scientifically proven that trees and large-leafed plants are perfect storage units for sequestering carbon, which helps counteract climate change and reduce the frequency and intensity of fires. Shade trees lower the amount of solar radiation reaching buildings and humans. Roots of trees and shrubs create channels in the earth, letting water seep into the ground and foliage cools the air via transpiration. Put the monstrous equipment underground like other thinking municipalities. No more lumbering SCE trucks blocking roads and damaging infrastructure, and less chance of destructive fires. Enough nonsense already.
