Pepperdine University volleyball player Julie Rubenstein last week was named a Mike Gilleran Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in the West Coast Conference, selected by a vote of the WCC’s institutional representatives to recognize the finest accomplishments in athletics, academics and community service by individuals who have completed their WCC eligibility.
Rubenstein played four seasons on Pepperdine’s volleyball team, serving as team captain in 2008. She ended her career ranked second in solo blocks (96), third in kills (1,743), third in points (2,064), fifth in service aces (116) and 10th in digs (973) on Pepperdine’s all-time career list.
Her other athletic achievements include being selected as the 2009 Pepperdine Female Athlete of the Year, being named to the AVCA All-American third team and named to the first team of this year’s Collegiate Volleyball Update Stellar Spikers, recognizing the nation’s top 14 players.
