Thank you, Stephen, for your “House woes” letter to the editor, published Aug. 6, shedding light on the sad situation at Malibu’s beautiful Adamson House. As a former docent trainer, longtime volunteer, Docent Council secretary, day leader, database administrator and one of the many volunteers who recently resigned as a volunteer, I hope that your letter helps move things in the direction of reopening the house to the public.
It is a staggering fact that in 2014, 76 volunteers donated 10,000 hours to the Adamson House — approximately three-quarters of which were given by the nearly 50 who have left over the situation between the Malibu Adamson House Foundation and State Parks.
The house cannot be properly put on view for the public without the hard work and dedication of such volunteers. Let’s get this sad mess resolved and restore this property for viewing by the thousands of visitors —international, national and local — who come each year to get a glimpse of Malibu’s early development and this beautiful home of one of its pioneer families.
