EDISON SAYS THIS IS WIND DAMAGE, THAT MALIBU IS NOT IN THE INTENTIONAL OUTAGE AREA.
THE CITY HAS BEEN TOLD TWICE THAT WESTERN MALIBU -IS- IN THE PRE-EMPTIVE POWER OUTAGE AREA.

= SMMUSD has been advised by Edison that power could be out until “late tonight.” Edison crews are working on transmission lines in Malibu Canyon.
= Power is out at the Civic Center. All signals on PCH from Topanga Cyn rd to Pepperdine are out. Signals working at Point Dume, Paradise Cove, Zuma EXCEPT at Busch.
= Webster School is blacked out as well as the Malibu High / Cabrillo schools, regular dismissal times. LA sheriffs deputies will be directing traffic near schools.
POWER WENT OUT FROM ZUMA CREEK WEST TO COUNTY LINE at 8:59.
= Power did not come back up at noon, as originally forecast. No estimate on restoration time.
= Waterworks says pressure is being maintained from central Malibu – no loss of pressure.
= Extra deputies will be summoned to direct traffic as school gets out.
= 2200 or so customer accounts remain blacked out.
= Western Malibu is added the list of POSSIBLE intentional emergency power cuts. But this outage was not intended, wind did it by itself, according to the city.
= Signal out at PCH / Busch – others may fail as batteries run out.
= Power out at Malibu High and Juan Cabrillo. Point Dume appears to be OK.
= Sprint functioning in western Malibu. Verizon not.
= Restoration time estimated at noon (missed).
10:25 AM UPDATE:
City has been told this is a wind-related outage, not a pre-emptive blackout. Edison has not yet confirmed that. No official word on extent of power blackout but we believe that the two western-most circuits in Malibu are out – from Zuma Creek west to county line. No word on cause or estimated restoration of power.

Red Flags are up … and Santa Anas hitMalibu at about 4 this morning.
The NWS says red flags will be up until around 3 o’clock this afternoon.
A Red Flag Warning means the National Weather Service is predicting wins that are extreme enough to either caused or spread a fire.
Winds will be coming over the mountains at 20 to 30 miles an hour this morning and early afternoon… with gusts up to 50 miles an hour.
Gusty Santa Ana winds will only get stronger through this morning, peaking after daybreak and into the late morning hours.
Winds will weaken tonight … but will be blowing into tomorrow..
