Girls’ Basketball: The Malibu High School girls’ basketball team ended its season last week with a 1-1 performance against La Reina and Villanova Prep. The girls faced off against La Reina on Feb. 8 and won in a tightly contested game. The game came down to the final seconds in which the Sharks were able to score the winning basket off an inbound pass, making it their third league win of the season. The team then played Villanova Prep on Feb. 10, losing in a 31-53 contest. The girls end their season with a 3-7 record in league after suffering through a season filled with injuries to many of their starters.
Boys’ Soccer: The Malibu High School varsity boys ‘soccer team went 1-1 in league play last week to end their season. On Feb. 7, the boys fell in a 2-5 contest against Carpinteria. The Sharks then returned home to face Fillmore in what was their last game of the season. The boys honored their seniors and ended their 2011 season with a 4-3 win against Fillmore. The boys will return a number of this year’s starters, including players such as sophomore Adam Fote and junior Sam Haft, to next year’s team.
Girls’ Soccer: The Malibu High School varsity girls’ soccer team went 1-1 in league play to keep their season alive and advance to the playoffs for the third straight year. The girls honored seniors Claire Kiefer, Gigi Wooler, Raynielle Collins and Ashtin Miller in their last home win 5-2 against Nordhoff on Feb. 7. The Sharks then traveled to Saint Bonaventure on Feb. 9 and lost in a 1-2 contest. With the win and the loss last week, the girls move to 7-4-1 in league and will play their first playoff game this week.
Boys’ Basketball: The Malibu High School varsity boys’ basketball team went 0-1 in league play last week, yet was still able to steal a spot in the playoffs. The boys traveled to Carpinteria on Feb. 9 to take on the Warriors, losing in a 44-49 contest. The boys still were able to move on to playoffs despite their 0-4 start in the Frontier League. The boys are riding a strong second half of their season into their playoff game against Paraclete on Feb. 16.
