Malibu Congressman Ted Lieu will -not- boycott tonight’s State of the Union address … according to his press secretary this morning.
Lieu will invite as his guest .., a representative from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
The President’s State of the Union address is at 6 o’clock tonight.
KBUU will carry the address live … here … on 99.1 FM.

CBS Los Angeles has tracked down the man rescued from the canyon off Kanan Dume Road Friday night.
Zane Vargas tells channel 2 that he has a broken arm and will need surgery … from injuries suffered when his Cadillac went over a cliff following a two car crash on Kanan Dume … just north of the scenic viewpoint where the strawberry stand usually sits.
Vargas says he never saw the other car … a white van that ended up upside down on the four lane road.
A county fire paramedic team … and the Malibu search and rescue squad … used ropes to get down to the Cadillac.
The crash happened on a road that for the most part is not lined with guard rails … a scene where several vehicles have gone over the cliff … and where several people have been killed.

The drunk driver checkpoint last Friday night at the Malibu Civic Center resulted in one drunk driver getting caught … and 12 arrests of people driving on suspended licenses.
Most of them … like convicted drunks.
The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station says its checkpoint … at Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way … screened 1025 vehicles.
Driver checkpoints have a proven track record of reducing driving under the influence of drink or drugs …
Many people object to them as an unconstitutional search and seizure … and a big inconvenience.
But the US Supreme Court has ruled that checking drivers for impairment is not unreasonable.

The Shark Research Committee reports that seven authenticated unprovoked shark attacks happened along the Pacific coast of North America last year.
That ties with 2004 … for the most attacks recorded in a single year.
There have been 103 Pacific shark attacks since 2000.
Sixty-two were surfers … compared to only 17 kayakers.
But four of the seven attacks last year were kayakers.
Why the increase statistics???
More sharks … and more kayakers.
