The Malibu Planning Commission this week approved plans to overhaul the Casa Malibu Inn motel, believed to be owned by billionaire and Malibu real estate mogul Larry Ellison. The plans were approved on the condition that the applicant, listed as North Broadway Ventures, LLC, dedicate public lateral access next to the motel and donate to a city fund that supports lower cost visitor-serving overnight accommodations in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The renovation plans include a reduction in the number of rooms from 22 to 16, an upgrade of the onsite wastewater treatment system and repairs to the existing bulkhead and pile foundation. The Casa Malibu Inn was built in 1950 and is located just south of the Malibu Pier.
