Patricia M. Scoales

Patricia M. Scoales died on Nov. 2 in Santa Monica due to a stroke, after a two-year period of failing health.

Patricia was born on Jan. 22, 1926.

Born and raised in Long Beach, she left to lead an energetic and varied life from a showgirl, to social worker and then mom — her favorite occupation. She attended Columbia, Claremont and UCLA universities, and received a BA in Art History, at which she excelled.

In 1968, Patricia and her husband William moved to Point Dume where they raised their son Nicholas and an acre filled with trees, cats, dogs, chickens and ducks.

“She loved most creatures, great and small,” a loved one wrote to The Malibu Times.

“Patricia’s favorite response to adversity was, ‘You might as well laugh,” and she did, and will be forever remembered by those who heard that musical sound,” a loved one wrote.

Patricia is survived by her husband William who said he, “will always treasure and thank her for [our] 58 years.”
