Weather is heavy fog now … hot this afternoon inland.

Surf is poor.

Two motorcyclists crash into each other in a tunnel on Kanan Dume Road … they are burned in a fire.

School officials in Santa Monica want to change plans … and build a new two story classroom at Malibu High

And the Malibu Farmers Market still doesn’t have a lease … as the county has vague plans to relocate it to build the new Malibu Community College.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news.

It’s the Monday news … from Radio Malibu  …. 97 point 5 K B U.

It’s ((((((     time      )))) Pacific Daylight Saving Time.

Good morning Malibu!

——

Two motorcyclists were critically burned yesterday … when their bikes crashed into each other and caught fire inside the longest tunnel on Kanan Dume Road.

The wreck and fire was at 12:54.

The motorcyclists tangled inside the number two tunnel on the hill between Troutdale to Mulholland.

Smoke from the burning motorcycles filled the tunnel … and there were two people on the ground.

Fire units were given wrong information by some 9-1-1 callers … and were sent to tunnel 1 … three miles away.

The road towards Malibu was closed for 45 minutes to an hour …. traffic detoured to the nearby … parallel Mulholland Highway.

Two motorcyclists were flown out with critical burn injuries.

Two others had lesser injuries … reportedly broken ankles.

The tunnel filled up with smoke … causing a serious danger to motorists and rescuers.

For the first time … sheriff’s deputies in Malibu used a drone Saturday.

It was a search … an unsuccessful search … for that missing 20 year old Glendale woman.

The drone flew on the slopes of Corral Canyon … above the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu where her car was found last month.

Elaine Park, 20, was last seen leaving her boyfriend’s house in Calabasas on January 28th.

Her car was found parked on Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Seafood five days later … with her keys, purse and laptop inside.

On Saturday … the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station coordinated a large-scale search in the mountains above PCH.

They turned up empty-handed.

Park’s mother … Susan Park … spent much of the day at the command post.

She told the L-A Daily News that some articles of clothing were found — but nothing that would immediately indicate they belonged to her daughter.

Controversy swirls today over the Malibu Farmers Market.

City officials and the community have been promised that the market …will continue to operated by a nonprofit called Cornucopia at the county-owned Civic Center … even while a new community college is built in the middle of the facility.

L-A County owns the parking lot … where the Sunday markets are held.

They will meet with community college district officials today to try to come up with a plan … to shift the market a few hundred feet to the east to allow for the grading and repaving of the west part of the parking lot.

College construction boss Donald Girard says the County, with input from Cornucopia, has identified the potential locations to provide enough space to accommodate the entire market.

Not so … says Cornucopia director Debra Bianco.

She wants 100 percent of the current space … through the construction of the college.

She says the county … quoting now …. “promised the City of Malibu as well as the Cornucopia Farmers’ Market that the Farmers’ Market will operate in it’s full capacity, as is, during the construction of the Santa Monica College.”

The Farmers’ Market lease will be up this week.

City Manager Reva Feldman says that as far …. “As far I know ((((she knows)))), the county is trying to accommodate as much of the farmers market as they can.”

The ultimate arbiter on this is County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.

Sheila Kuehl gave KBUU News this statement … voiced by a fellow reporter….

“…My office hoped that we could keep the Farmer’s Market operating at full scale with minimal disruption.

But as anyone who has ever done even a minor remodel to their homes knows, construction is really messy.

My office is working closely with the city of Malibu, the Farmer’s Market and other stakeholders to find as many solutions as we can to the issues that have come up and to keep as much going as possible.

I appreciate everyone’s patience and goodwill in this process. “

The words of Sheila Kuehl … voiced by a KBUU reporter.

The controversial Sanctuary City issue …. is on the city council agenda tonight.

Also .. the city council will decide the fate of an ordinance that would allow the Malibu Beach Inn to replace its parking lot with a swimming pool …. and park its customer cars across PCH and down the street.

And once again … the city council will go into closed door session to discuss the performance of the City Manager.

This is the fourth meeting in a row that the city manager’s job review has been on the agenda.

That’s most unusual.

Also … the city council will discuss behind closed doors the possible purchase of six acres of potential parkland …. next to City Hall.

And … the potential purchase of the Malibu Playhouse …. the small community theater on Point Dume.

Santa Monica Malibu School district officials have unveiled specific plans to replace an existing single story classroom … with a two story building … at Malibu high school.

A 55-year-old building at the campus’s eastern side probably … but not definitely … has PCBs sealed up within it.

The district won’t comment on that … but it says demolishing the old building and replacing it makes the most sense.

The district says it will modify its construction plans and environmental impact report …

but it calls the change minor and within the scope of what was already approved by the city.

Some controversy might come from the building’s appearance … the district plans to use shipping containers to construct the new two-story building.

The aesthetics of that are not disclosed in the districts plans  …. which were released over the weekend.

The overall height of the two story structure was not exactly described or depicted either.

But it appears that the profile will be below the bluff to the east of the building … and below the existing two-story building to the west.
