I’m finally hopeful for the City of Malibu. After 11 years, I think we have turned the corner. It’s not completely clear yet, but with the City Council that we have now, the members seem to be trying to solve the monumental problems we have. At least they are trying hard. Who would want to be a City Council member for $300 a year? They are doing a service for the community that we all love so well.

Some of our neighbors love their mansions with their gates and fences, but they have missed the point of why most of us have lived here and discovered the beauty and neighborhood feeling of the small town. There are still even celebrities and wealthy people that are doing good for the schools and recreation of youth. Look at the Perenchios and the Crummers. They do it very quietly. Look at David Foster, Mel Gibson and Howard Stern who are having a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club and did so for the schools a few years ago. The people who attend these fundraisers contribute, too. Look at the large number of volunteers that contribute to the Malibu Lagoon Museum and service clubs. Coaches of the countless teams and so many who contribute to all of the clubs that give scholarships and prizes to the community! They are too numerous to mention.

If you are not taking part in some of the Malibu activities, you are missing the neighbors you could meet and share in the fun that is to be had! We will have a local plan that we can live with, just wait and see.
