More than 1.500 runners take off along the ocean in the second annual Saint John's Santa Monica 5000.

More than 1,500 runners participated in the second annual Saint John’s Santa Monica 5000. Runners competed in either the 5,000-meter or 10,000 meter race along the ocean. Jonathan Friedman, Nira Lichten and Laura Tate from The Malibu Times competed in the 1-mile media race.

Haron Lagat from Santa Fe won the men’s 5,000-meter race with a time of 14 minutes, 5 seconds. Caroline Cheptanui, also from Santa Fe, won the women’s 5,000-meter race in 16:18. The 10,000-meter male crown went to Palmdale resident Sergio Reyes. He completed the run in 30:10. Los Angeles resident Christine Bolf won the woman’s race in 35:53.
