Workers have ally

I want to thank our State Controller John Chiang for having the courage to stand up to the governor’s scheme to cut the pay of state workers to a measly $6.55 an hour. The governor’s plan is so outlandish and unproductive that it barely merits consideration. Nonetheless, without Controller Chiang actively supporting California’s state workers, Arnold might have gotten away with it.

John Chiang is standing up to Arnold and, in doing so, prevented him from causing a lot of unnecessary hardship and inviting a number of really unnecessary lawsuits just to straighten things out.

I have to admit, I don’t normally pay attention to what our controller is doing. And when I voted for controller, I never considered whether they’d go toe-to-toe with our governor over something important.

But now I’ve learned my lesson. I’m glad that, when it mattered, John Chiang was there to make sure we did what was right for California and what was right for our workers.
