We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Packing Party for the Troops on Nov. 20, in Malibu. The support from the Malibu community was overwhelming. It looked like Santa’s Workshop with 51 volunteer elves of all ages scurrying around making colorful Christmas decorations, writing letters, and packing festive packages for the troops. Friends and neighbors arrived with their arms loaded down with items for the soldiers and willing, working hands.
All of the Malibu schools supported the troops in amazing ways. Students and staff at Juan Cabrillo, Point Dume Marine Science, Our Lady of Malibu, Viewpoint and Malibu Junior/Senior High schools wrote creative and inspiring letters and cards that were included in each packet. The students, staff and parents from Webster school held a schoolwide drive that produced a bonanza of treats, movies and other items to send. Items that could not be included were sent to the military families. Because of everyone’s efforts, there was a record breaking 1,150 packets completed that will be sent to Iraq, Afghanistan and Northern Africa.
Our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the lucky troops who are the recipients, and for giving them a touch of home at Christmas time.
Malibu, you are awesome!
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season.
