Letter: Malibu Easter event not so hoppening

What a nice picture of kids getting eggs in your recent [online] article about Malibu’s “Easter Hoppening.” I have had two awful experiences at this event, last year and this year.

Last year my two-year-old couldn’t quite wait until it was time to “go” at the egg hunt. Then, when it was time to “go,” so many adults screamed and stormed the lawn that it was pure chaos. It seemed very pushy and almost as if people were fighting over who can grab the most eggs. So many adults should not have been allowed on that field. Maybe one adult for one two-yearold should be allowed. But there were parents and grandparents out there grabbing to make sure their kiddos got a good share of loot!

This year my husband took my now three-year-old to play on the playground while I held his spot on the lawn (for about 15 minutes), only for a “bully mom” to tell her five-year-old son to take that spot. When I politely told her I had been waiting there holding that spot she got super aggressive with me and “jumped down my throat,” which started to cause a scene. My husband showed up 30 seconds later, my son’s spot was taken.

When the egg hunt started, he couldn’t see what he was supposed to do, but he got three eggs. However, his friend got zero eggs, and then we gave one away to another sad boy with zero eggs. We stayed off the lawn, but there were still too many adults on the lawn for the three-to-five-year-olds.
