The Ventura County Fire Department has started using Fireline, a site that allows residents to monitor the department’s activity from computers and mobile devices. Residents can view the date and time, type and location of the incident firefighters are responding to.

“We now have two versions of Fireline,” Captain Mike Lindbery said in a statement. “They allow the public to view where our firefighters are responding as the incidents occur. The information comes directly from our computer-aided dispatch system, so it’s essentially a real-time look at what we’re doing.”

According to a release, the data is updated every minute. No personal information protected under privacy laws is visible to the public. Street addresses are rounded to the block and the type of incident is described broadly.
