Smell of excess

The following letter was addressed to the City Council.

Please take very, very seriously the potential overloading of the Trancas shopping center septic system, a lesson you should have learned from the waste problems you’re having at your Lumber Yard. Here is the reason to prohibit picnic tables, as explained by the Malibu West HOA appeal:

“To protect the overloading of the TCM septic system as is the intent of the condition limiting the number of restaurant dining tables and ensuring enough parking, add the following condition: Tables in courtyard area that can be used for dining, including picnic tables, are prohibited.” If you don’t understand why this is a problem, do a focused EIR.

If you ignore residents’ warnings about health and sanitation problems, if you do not prohibit picnic tables and then the TCM septic system overloads, it’s inevitable that Malibu city government will bear the brunt of more lawsuits and more bad press relations.

Wouldn’t you rather be environmentally and financially responsible and simply prohibit anything that will overload the Trancas shopping center septic system?

I for one do not want to see my city spend any more of my money on wasteful lawsuits and I and my neighbors and visitors to our area do not want to have an odor around Trancas like that stinky septic smell at the Cross Creek shopping centers. Banning picnic tables is a simple solution.

I also want to thank you for agreeing with the Malibu West Homeowners Association about the importance to public safety of requiring the developer of the Trancas shopping center to provide lender-approved emergency exit easements. Lives will be saved because of this condition of approval. Imagine the good that an EIR could have accomplished.
