Malibu’s Legacy Park has added to its accolades with the 2013 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence.

The League of California Cities selected Legacy Park for the category of Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, recognizing it for improving water quality in the Malibu Creek Watershed, a 17-acre passive recreation area, education kiosks and innovative financing.

“The Helen Putnam Award is one of highest honors bestowed by our peers in the League of California Cities,” said Malibu Mayor Joan House. “We are thrilled to see Legacy Park recognized, as it is a model of innovative government and a progressive approach to improving water quality.”

The Putnam award, named for a former mayor of Petaluma and Sonoma supervisor, recognizes projects that improve the quality of life in local communities, implement efficiencies in service delivery and operations, and provide services responsive to the local community, according to the City of Malibu.

This was Legacy Park’s ninth award since the park on Civic Center Way opened in Oct. 2010. Other awards include recognition for engineering achievements, innovation and sustainability.
