LACo Fire crews battle brush fire at Rambla Pacifico and Las Flores Canyon Road.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to two separate fires in Malibu on Saturday afternoon—one at Rambla Pacifico and Las Flores Canyon Road and a second at Corral Canyon and Pacific Coast Highway.

A small brush fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Rambla Pacifico and Las Flores Canyon. With temperatures reaching 94 degrees, the fire quickly spread up hillsides dangerously close to homes on Paloma Blanco Drive.  Ten engines were immediately called to the scene at 2:45 p.m. and fire crews were able to get a handle on the blaze swiftly although scorched brush was seen on the southern side of Rambla Pacifico. A water-dropping helicopter made several passes to aid ground crews that scrambled up the hillside with hoses and to clear brush.  A crew of 10 to 15 firefighters made a fire break on another flank in order to save nearby homes. Crews were on the scene for more than two hours. No injuries or damage to property was reported.

The fire at Corral Canyon and PCH was called in at 4:02 p.m. and by 4:31 p.m. official alerts from City of Malibu reported “containment [was] expected shortly.”
