Medora Colberg, a 55-year Malibu resident, died at her Point Dume home on Aug. 5. She was 93 years old.
Born in Crystal Lake, IL in 1916, Medora grew up on her family’s farm. She graduated from the University of Illinois, where she met her husband, Schiller A. Colberg. They were married in 1940 and moved to Malibu in 1954, bringing with them their four children.
Many residents in Malibu and surrounding communities know of Medoras’s tremendous grace under extreme crisis when her daughter, Karen, was in a nearly fatal automobile accident while on her honeymoon in Mexico in 1969. Medora put the welfare and rehabilitation of her third child , Karen, first, working tirelessly with her for 40 years to improve her speech and ability to walk. She never gave up hope. Medora was also named The Malibu Times’ “Mother of the Year” in 2008.
Preceded in death by her husband in 2004 and by her son, Kit, in 1989, she is survived by her son Kent (Kay) Colberg, daughters Karen Colberg and Kristine (Forrest) Stewart, and by grandchildren Scott, Doug and Kelly Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 16525 Sherman Way C8, Van Nuys, CA 91406.
