Am I the only one concerned with the proliferation of golf carts being driven around Point Dume? A couple of Saturday’s ago I counted 13 in a couple of hours.
When I called the Department of Motor Vehicles with my concerns they told me that if it doesn’t have a license it is not allowed on public roads. In addition most do not have seat belts.
I talked to a father about letting his six-year-old daughter drive down my street because it is quieter than their street. When I asked them to stop the dad became so angry he told the little girl to go ahead and drive over my 20-pound dog!
I have seen mothers driving an unlicensed cart, carrying an infant, on the cell phone and basically steering with their knees.
What really annoyed me today is a kid driving an unlicensed golf cart recklessly with one kid on the hood facing backwards three kids in the front (one hanging over the edge) and three kids in the back. Not one over 15 years old. Blocking four cars driving down the street. Very unsafe.
When I questioned the safety issues they told me “Go ahead and call the police – and have a nice day.” They were not concerned in the least and as a matter of fact had an attitude of entitlement.
An accident is ready to happen and somebody is going to get hurt badly.
I have friends who drive to the beach with their surfboards and this doesn’t bother me because their golf cart is licensed, they are licensed, and they are polite and driving responsibly. They pull over and let the cars pass as they are mostly going 10 miles an hour.
I am going to copy the Sheriffs, the City Council and other concerned neighbors and hope that they will look into the matter and take the high road, one of concern and safety.
