Our Lady of Malibu School’s eighth grade class visited the laboratory of Dr. Tom Vandergon at Pepperdine University on Friday, Feb. 13. The students learned about the atom and physicist Niels Bohr, who was a Nobel Prize winner in 1922. Bohr was the physicist who first proposed the concept of atomic structure and how quantum leaps.
Students conducted experiments that were similar to those of Bohr by burning chemicals and examining spectral lines using a spectroscope. They then related their findings to the energy and color output of the suns and stars.
