The sophomore recently won the national championship in the 5K cross country competition. According to information provided by Mayor La Monte at the meeting, Claudia Lane won 13 of the 14 races she competed in during the Fall season and set course records at two.
“Not only are you a great runner, but it sounds like you are an amazing young lady, student, activist, leader and that’s exactly the kind of person we’re proud … to have,” Rosenthal said at the meeting.
Lane said she was grateful for the public honor.
“Thank you so much for having me,” she added.
