Simon Cowell, 58, probably best known to television audiences for his role as a judge on “American Idol,” “The X-Factor” and “America’s Got Talent,” recently bought a $24 million property in Malibu. He is the founder and chief of Syco, the British entertainment company responsible for “The X-Factor” and “Got Talent” franchises.

The real estate purchase was confirmed by the LA Times, Variety and various other publications in November and December. However, most publications reported the sale as being $25 million—only the LA Times reported it as $24 million.

The property had been owned by a corporate entity with ties to Brian Greenspun, the publisher and president of the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, since 2003. It first went on the market two years ago for $29.95 million, and was more recently listed for $26.995 million, records show.

Steven Schaefer and Jay Luchs of Newmark Residential were the listing agents of record. Mark John Williams of Keller Williams Realty Porter Ranch and Dustin Nicholas of Nicholas Property Group represented Cowell. Williams also represented Cowell six years ago when he bought a home in Beverly Hills. Cowell owns additional pricey real estate in New York and London.

Cowell’s new Malibu bluff-top compound with ocean views is located on Pacific Coast Highway near Puerco Canyon and set on 1.63 acres with lawns, gardens, a long, tree-lined driveway, a lighted tennis court, a koi pond and a swimming pool. The contemporary main house, built in 1988, has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and about 8,600 square feet. Interior details include dark wood floors, Venetian plaster walls, high ceilings, large skylights and five fireplaces.
