The Malibu City Council on Monday will consider researching a law that would require new commercial developments to install solar panels to power new buildings.
Mayor Joan House and Councilman Lou La Monte are bringing the request to the Council dais in the hopes of bolstering the City’s “Green Building Standards Code.”
The code, passed by the City Council in 2011, includes suggestions on how to emphasize greener standards, specifically “the use of solar energy, in both residential and non-residential developments.”
It is not clear whether House and La Monte wish for any future ordinance of this type to apply to development projects already approved and in the works, or if it would only apply to future developments. Calls for clarification were not immediately returned.
