The semi-official absentee ballot count as of 8:03 p.m. Tuesday was:
Votes Percent
YES 4,920 66.51

The polls closed at 8 p.m. June 3, after The Malibu Times went to press. However, a full story on the results of balloting will be accessible online at www.malibutimes.com this week.
If passed, Measure S, which would levy a property tax of $225 per parcel, would bring in approximately $6 million annually to the Santa Monica-Malibu School District. A two-thirds vote is needed to pass the measure. Currently, the district has laid off more than 200 employees, including more than 90 teachers, and cut programs such as music to deal with the district’s current $13 million budget deficit.
