Kevin Trevor Rodriguez died from a fall at Tokopah Falls on Aug. 10. He was 19 years old.

Born Nov. 7, 1989, Rodriguez lived in Los Angeles until he was five years old. His family moved to Malibu where he attended Webster Elementary School and graduated from Malibu High School after taking several honors and advanced placement classes.

He excelled in math, physics and calculus, and was accepted into Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he was majoring in Electrical Engineering. Rodriguez was about to begin his third year as a dedicated student after taking three summer courses at Moorpark Community College.

In celebration of his outstanding college grades, Rodriguez, two friends and his family went to Sequoia National Park on Aug. 9. He went hiking the following day at Tokopah Falls, where he slipped and fell 60 feet. Though he landed in a pool of water, he hit his head and died at the scene.

“He was very humble, honest,” his father Robert Rodriguez Sr. said. “He always liked to treat others the way he like to be treated. He always said, ‘never assume’ or ‘never judge.’ He always believed that ‘knowledge is power’.”

He is survived by an older brother, a younger sister and his parents Trinidad and Robert Rodriguez.

Chapel services will take place Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at Chapel of the Oaks in Westlake Village.
