Dr. Pedro Noguera and his team will present the findings of their recent equity review at a special Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) Board of Education meeting on April 7.
The SSMUSD has been work-ing with Noguera and his team to develop an action plan that will assist the district in taking the next best steps to address achievement gaps and further current equity and access work, according to a press release from the district. The equity review that was conducted last fall and early this year is the first phase of this work.
Noguera and his team visited every SMMUSD school during the review and gathered data to examine districtwide and school-specific trends by speaking with staff and student focus groups.
Noguera currently works as a distinguished professor of education in the UCLA graduate school of education and information sciences and previously served as a tenured professor at New York University. He has authored 11 books and over 200 articles.
