On Wednesday morning, a woman was safely rescued from a crash off Latigo Canyon Road, Sheriffs from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station confirmed to The Malibu Times.
David Katz of the Malibu Search and Rescue Team confirmed that the victim was a missing woman from Simi Valley. The woman is believed to be Jenifer Duron of Simi Valley who was reported missing two days ago, according to the Ventura County Star.
Katz also stated that there was no indication of food or water in the vehicle where the woman was found, though it is not immediately clear whether she had been trapped in the car since her disappearance Monday.
“Using Malibu Search and Rescue ‘Truck and Winch’ system we raised [the victim] and the rescuers to the top of the road, and she was carried over to a waiting ambulance that took her to Helicopter 14 that had landed at a turnout” reported Katz.
“She was airlifted by the L.A. County Fire Department to UCLA Medical Hospital” reported Katz. LACO Fire also confirmed the woman had been airlifted to a local hospital.
The rescue unfolded Wednesday morning.
Ten minutes after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, emergency responders received a call that there was a “woman yelling for help from a white SUV,” disclosed Katz.
By 9:30 a.m., Malibu Search and Rescue was on scene. L.A. County Fire sent a ground crew as well as Helicopter 14. In addition, the Malibu Sheriff’s Station sent responders.
The car, which had endured a drop of 50-75 feet over the edge of the canyon road, appeared to be in relatively good condition despite noticeable damage, Katz stated.
The cause of the accident is thought to have been a sharp turn in the road.
“It was a hairpin turn approximately four miles north of PCH,” Katz said.
The victim was “conscious and talking to rescuers on the scene,” Katz stated.
California Highway Patrol, which is the lead agency investigating the crash, confirmed the presence of a female victim over the side of Latigo Canyon, but were not able to confirm her identity.
Emergency personnel from Malibu Search and Rescue, LA County Fire, Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, Mountain Recreation Conservancy Rangers and McCormick Ambulance were on scene for the rescue.
