The City of Malibu has been given the 2011 award for Outstanding Stormwater Best Management Practice Implementation from the California Stormwater Quality Association, for its work on Legacy Park, according to a press release from the city.

The award recognizes projects that utilize creative approaches and outstanding practices in the field of stormwater quality management. Legacy Park was created with a stormwater system that improves water quality by capturing, filtering and treating stormwater runoff to remove bacteria and pollutants.

“The City of Malibu is extremely proud to have CASQA recognize Legacy Park for the ‘Outstanding BMP Implementation’ award,” Malibu Mayor John Sibert said. “Legacy Park demonstrates Malibu’s ongoing commitment to clean water, protecting the environment, and promoting a sustainable community and lifestyle for generations to come. Malibu has long been a leader in clean water projects and Legacy Park will help ensure clean ocean water for our residents and for our 15 million annual visitors.”
